Kerala Wedding Pre-Bridal Timeline: 6 Weeks to the Day

Between the engagement, the muhurtham or church ceremony and the reception, a Kerala wedding can mean several looks in a few days. The trick is spacing your treatments so your skin, hair and nails peak on the right morning, not a week early or a day late.

Here's a week-by-week plan for both bride and groom, with real prices from the current rate card at Toni&Guy Essensuals Infopark in Kakkanad. All rates are before GST.

The plan at a glance

Six weeks out: book the day and plan the look

Lock in your makeup booking first. Tell the salon your muhurtham or ceremony time so the start time can be worked back from it, and share photos of your saree, jewellery and any looks you like.

Bridal hair, makeup and saree draping comes in four levels:

HD makeup uses fine, light-reflecting products that look seamless on camera. Airbrush sprays a thin, even layer that wears for a very long time, which helps on long days and in humid Kerala weather.

If you'd rather get ready at home, the hall or the church, the team can come to you for ₹3,000 extra within 10 km of the city, or ₹6,000 out of station. Hair extensions are priced at consultation. Details are on the bridal makeup page.

This is also the time to decide on colour or smoothening. Starting a new hair colour now leaves time to fine-tune the shade before your final touch-up, and a patch test about 48 hours before is recommended if you've never coloured. Keratin and smoothening mean no washing, tying or tucking hair behind your ears for about 72 hours afterwards, so plan around any functions.

Six to four weeks out: start the package

Four to six weeks before the wedding gives facials and hair treatments time to show. The pre-wedding packages bundle the essentials:

If you have a specific skin concern

The salon's skin treatment courses for acne, under-eyes or dullness run as four sittings three weeks apart, which is about nine weeks from first to last. If you want one, start around ten weeks out rather than six.

For painful or persistent breakouts, or any rash that won't settle, see a dermatologist rather than relying on facials. As a general rule, don't start new prescription creams or strong actives in the last month unless your doctor has planned it.

Three to two weeks out: test anything new

If you've never had full-body waxing, try it now rather than in the last few days, so you know how your skin reacts. Use any spare visit for a hair spa sitting to keep your lengths soft.

One to two weeks out: the final cut

Book your final cut, colour or smoothening in this window, and never the day before. Grooms with a fade should book closer to one week out than two, since fades look sharpest for two to three weeks. A men's cut with a Senior Stylist is ₹550, or ₹720 with a Top Stylist, washed and styled.

For nails, extensions usually last three to four weeks before a refill, so have a set done in the last week or so if you want them fresh for the reception too. Nail extensions are ₹2,500 with gel polish.

Two to five days out: skin at its best

This is the window for a HydraFacial, because there's usually no redness or peeling. The Deluxe 7-in-1 is ₹5,999 and the Signature 10-in-1 is ₹7,999. Skip retinol, acids and scrubs for 48 hours afterwards.

Get threading done now as well. Grooms can book a beard shape-up (₹200) or a full beard design (₹350) a day or two before.

The day before and the day itself

The day before, keep things simple: no new products and no first-time treatments.

On the day, the bride's hair, makeup and saree draping are done at the salon or your venue. For the groom, groom makeup is ₹6,500 for normal, ₹8,000 for HD and ₹10,000 for airbrush.
