Balayage & highlights in Kakkanad
Dark Indian hair can carry caramel, honey and soft brown tones beautifully — if it’s lightened with patience. Hand-painted balayage that grows out softly, foil highlights for brighter dimension, or an all-over shade lighter, planned around your natural base, your skin tone and how often you want to come back.

Book this if.
- You want brightness that grows out softly, without a harsh root line
- Your dark hair feels flat and you’d like dimension around your face
- You want to go a shade or two lighter all over
- You’d rather see your colourist every few months, not every few weeks
- Old highlights have turned brassy or patchy and need fixing
Balayage, highlights or global?
- Balayage
- Painted freehand onto the mid-lengths and ends, so your roots stay natural. Soft, lived-in and the easiest to grow out.
- Ombré
- Dark at the root, fading to a lighter shade at the ends — a more visible gradient than balayage.
- Highlights
- Fine sections lightened in foils, starting closer to the root. Brighter and more even, but regrowth shows sooner.
- Global colour
- One shade from root to tip. Best for a richer all-over tone or grey coverage; roots need a touch-up every four to six weeks.
Your appointment.
- 1
Consultation
Your colourist looks at your natural base, any old colour or henna and your skin tone, then shows you realistic shades from the swatch book.
- 2
Patch test
Recommended about 48 hours ahead if you’re new to colour or changing brands.
- 3
Lighten
Painted freehand for balayage or woven into foils for highlights, then left to lift slowly. Very dark hair may need more than one sitting.
- 4
Tone & finish
A toner takes out unwanted orange or yellow, then a rinse, conditioning and a blow-dry so you see the real result.

Make it last.
- Wait 48 hours before the first wash so the colour settles.
- Use a sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo; a purple or blue shampoo once a week keeps brassiness down.
- Lightened hair is more porous — condition every wash and use a weekly mask, especially through the monsoon.
- Use a heat protectant before ironing or tonging.
- Rinse out chlorine or sea water as soon as you can.
- Book a toner refresh between colour appointments if the shade starts to warm up.
Questions.
How much is balayage here?
Balayage, ombré and lumi-ombré start at ₹4,500. The final price depends on length, density and how much lightening your hair needs, so it’s confirmed at the consultation — before anything is applied.
Can dark Indian hair go blonde?
It can be lifted, but very dark hair passes through red, orange and yellow on the way. Caramel, honey and soft brown tones usually look most natural in one sitting; going much lighter is kinder to your hair done in stages.
Balayage or highlights — which lasts longer?
Balayage. Because the roots stay your natural shade, it grows out softly and most people refresh it every three to four months. Foil highlights start nearer the root, so regrowth shows sooner — often in eight to twelve weeks.
Will lightening damage my hair?
Any lightening changes the hair, but it can be done carefully — slowly, in stages if needed, and with the right aftercare. If your hair is already dry, ask about pairing colour with a treatment from the hair spa menu.
I’ve used henna. Can I still get highlights?
Tell your colourist first. Henna can react unpredictably with lightener and often lifts to orange, so they may suggest a strand test or a different plan.
Why does lightened hair turn brassy?
Dark hair has warm pigment underneath, and sun, hard water and heat bring it out over time. A toner refresh at the salon and a purple shampoo at home keep it in check.
Do you do highlights for men?
Yes — men’s cap highlights start at ₹1,500, and men’s global colour at ₹1,500.
